Hacks, the streaming service series HBO Max, took the Emmy Awards by Best Script and Best Direction, in what social networks already classify as a real surprise at night, since it was all destined for Ted Lasso, who so far has two statuettes.

Eugene Levy, Daniel Levy, Catherine O’Hara y Annie Murphy, winners of last year’s award for Schitt’s Creek, starred in a comical moment at the ceremony as there were some technical problems when showing the nominees, they said. They then gave way to the two awards that gave as the great winner to Hacks.

In the first instance they took Best Comedy Screenplay for its pilot episode, written by Lucia Aniello, Paul Downs and Jen Statsky. In the shortlist they beat Girls5eva, PEN15, The Flight Attendant and two episodes of Ted Lasso. Everything seemed like the Apple TV + program had it won, but it was not.

The next hit came in Best Comedy Direction, where Lucia Aniello, screenwriter and co-creator of the show, won the award for the pilot episode. There they defeated B Positive, Mom, The Flight Attendant and three chapters of Ted Lasso, for which the surprise was once again in the 73rd edition of the awards.

“Hacks is a comedy series that follows the story of Deborah Vance, a Las Vegas comedian whose audiences have had better days when she was younger. But when her job and ego are threatened, she reluctantly agrees to meet with a young writer from Los Angeles to improve their monologues “says his synopsis. You can see it right now at HBO Max.
