Since Disney announced that Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi would be directing a new Star Wars movie, nothing more has been known about the New Zealander’s vision and his galaxy far, far away. But nevertheless, Waititi recently commented to Wired that “has a story” closed.

To be more concise, the director comments that the script is still in the early stages of development, but the backbone of the plot has been established.

It is still in the ‘EXT. SPACE ‘“Waititi told Wired, referring to how scripts are formatted to describe an opening scene.”But we have a story. I am very excited about her because she feels very me“.

Waititi’s directing style has often been defined by humorous and wacky contrasts with more serious stories. Jojo Rabbit explored the life of a young German in the waning days of World War II, with Waititi as Jojo’s imaginary friend, a clown named Adolf Hitler. Thor: Ragnarok launched Waititi into the mainstream, injecting a very special kind of comedy into the previously darker franchise, as well as starring in The Mandalorian series.

I tend to go down that little alley of sincerity in my movies“Waititi said, regarding how his style would fit in with Star Wars.”I like to trick the viewer into thinking this is it and then say, ‘Damn, you made me feel something!“.

It’s likely a while before we know anything more about Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie, and it’s possible that everything could change once the script starts to take more shape. The director’s upcoming projects include a sequel to What We Do in the Shadows, an animated Flash Gordon remake, several Netflix projects, and even a live-action Akira remake, although that one is not yet 100 percent confirmed.
