Thalia, renowned Mexican pop sensation, will be presented with the Poderosa Global award at Billboard’s inaugural Latin Women in Music for her incredible contributions to Latin pop for over 30 years. Beginning her career as a child star with Timbiriche, Thalia’s career has truly been remarkable. The ceremony will take place in Miami on May 6 and broadcasted on Telemundo the following day. The director of content for Latin/Español at Billboard, Leila Cobo, sat down with Thalia to discuss her achievements and the recognition she is receiving.
“I feel proud. I feel honored. I feel that I belong to a group of extremely talented, powerful women, full of vigor, full of that strength that is contagious,” Thalia expressed her gratitude for the recognition she will be receiving at the ceremony. Additionally, Thalia spoke about her advocacy for the advancement of Latina women in the music industry particularly highlighting the importance of supporting young Latina artists.
Thalia is not just a singer but also an actress and businesswoman as well. Her new three-episode docuseries, Thalia’s Mixtape: The Soundtrack of my Life, will premiere soon on Paramount+. The audiovisual piece which includes music videos, rock history lessons in Spanish, and nostalgic remembrances about the mixtape are special to Thalia.
As a tribute to revered Latin artists, Thalia also released a covers album Thalia’s Mixtape last week. The album includes covers of rebellious Spanish-language rock classics from the 1980s and 1990s. The collection features 11 tributes, including songs like “Give Me Back My Girl” by Hombres G, “Persiana Americana” by Soda Stereo, and “La muralla verde” by Los Enanitos Verdes.
Latina Women in Music, the first event of its kind in Latin music industry, celebrates Latina artists, executives, and creatives who are proactively working towards positive change, inclusion, and gender parity within the industry.
