In July 2019, subscribers discover Amazon Prime Video’s new series: The Boys. Adapted from the eponymous comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the show seems at first glance like yet another superhero series, as seen flourish on Netflix. Only, it would be bad to know the universe established by the two authors and cartoonists.
The Boys starts from this premise: imagine that superheroes are as well known as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as gods? And above all, imagine that they are not all turned towards helping others? As you will have understood, The Boys transforms superheroes into infamous bastards, capable of the worst to keep the status of a living deity. A group of determined men will however stand against them and intends to reveal the truth about the Seven and Vought International, the corporation in charge of the image of superheroes.
The Boys quickly became a hit thanks to its adult and raw tone and its stripping and dirty style a thousand places from Marvel productions such as Loki, WandaVision, or Miss Marvel coming soon. After two first seasons of excellent bills, The Boys returns soon on Amazon Prime Video. Story, casting, release date, trailer, we take stock of everything we know about this 3rd season!
The Boys Season 3 Release Date
Like many series before it, season 3 of The Boys has been postponed multiple times due to the difficulties caused by the global pandemic. Despite these issues, filming was completed in September 2021 and Amazon Prime Video is meeting fans on June 3, 2022 to discover the long-awaited sequel to butcher’s (mis)adventures and the others.
On D-Day, the first three episodes of the season will be available, then one episode every Friday, until the grand finale scheduled for July 8, 2022. Like the previous two seasons, it will be necessary to settle for eight episodes of about an hour.
Of course, this season 3 will be an opportunity to find heads known as:
- Karl Urban as Butcher
- Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell
- Laz Alonso as the Cream
- Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko
- Erin Moriarty as Annie January/Stella
- Dominique McElligot as Maeve
- Jessie Usher as the Fish Man
- Anthony Starr as the Protector or Homelander
- Nathan Mitchel as Black Noir
- Giancarlo Esposito as Stan Edgar
- Aya Cash as Stormfront
New faces also complete this already well-stocked cast. Jensen Ackles, known for her role in Supernatural, will take on the costume of Soldier Boy, while Katia Winter (Dexter) will play Little Nina, a Russian mobster who has a certain affinity with sex toys… Laurie Holden from The Walking Dead is also starring as Countess Crimson, a superheroine with a particularly powerful healing power. As for Kristin Booth and Jack Doolan, they will play the TNT Twins, totally barred twins with destructive abilities.
The Boys Season 3 Plot
Season 2 ends with a bloody clash between the Homelander and Butcher. In the battle, Stormfront left a few limbs while Butcher’s wife unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. Butcher has now found his son, the product of the forced union between his wife and Homelander. The boy has, unsurprisingly, inherited the superpowers from his appalling biological father, and for now he is unable to master them.
Either way, Butcher and the others are going to have to find a way to channel this destructive power. On the side of the Seven, the atmosphere is not good. The Protector is ravaged by the loss of Stormfront and the kidnapping of his son, an ideal breeding ground to let his paranoia and madness explode in season 3. This new season will be an opportunity for the showrunners to integrate new superheroes, namely Soldier Boy, an assumed parody of Captain America who is also at the head of a group of metahumans called the Payback.
If you stumble on the spot at the idea of knowing what this third season will look like, know that Amazon has just unveiled this March 12, 2022 the first official trailer of The Boys – season 3! Rest assured from the outset, this season promises its share of dismemberments, implosions and organs stuck to the wall as evidenced by these first extracts. Especially since Butcher seems to have consumed Compound V and now has superpowers. Enough to balance the rules of the game against Homelander.
