What is Transformers: Rise of the Beasts About?
Everything we know about the Bumblebee sequel… A few years have passed since Transformers last hit the screen, apparently long enough for his studio to rethink what it’s been doing since Transformers in 2007, and build on the good impressions it had made with Bumblebee (95%), the last title to be released before this necessary break.
The franchise continues to be a success that has earned more than US$4.8 billion worldwide, and a large part of this figure was obtained thanks to its live-action productions, specifically those that were directed by Michael Bay from its inception until Transformers: The Last Knight (15%), which hit theaters in 2017.
Now Paramount and Hasbro have another opportunity to bring the toys to the cinema, taking advantage of the fact that his previous release was very popular. Although with a lower collection than the rest of the titles, the film starring the yellow autobot Bumblebee was that breath of fresh air that Transformers needed and managed to captivate the public and critics.
What is Transformers: Rise of the Beasts About?
The traditional heroes and villains of Transformers have been on screen for some time to the delight of its fans, but after so many years it’s time to revamp the story a bit. Transformers: The Awakening of the Beasts is a proposal that is explored from an “archaeological” point after in 1994 we see how a couple of Brooklyn archaeologists are involved in a great conflict in which the Autobots and three factions participate.
New ones: the Maximals, the Predacons and the Terrorcons, the latter being heralds of an old enemy of the Transformers known by the name of Unicron. So what are the Maximals, Predacons and Terrorcons? Three new factions are coming to the big screen very soon, so this is the perfect time to learn more about them.
Who Are the Protagonists of Transformers: The Awakening of the Beasts?
An attractive cast cannot be missing to attract the attention of fans and the audience. On this occasion, we have Anthony Ramos as the protagonist in the role of Noah Díaz, an ex-military expert in electronics who lives with his family in Brooklyn. Dominique Fishback stars as Elena Wallace, an artifact researcher who works at a museum and must live daily with the fact that her boss takes advantage of her work to take all the credit.
Tobe Nwigwe stars as Reek, who joins Noah and Elena in this global adventure. That on the human side, since on the Autobots we have Peter Cullen, Pete Davidson, Liza Koshy, Cristo Fernández and John DiMaggio in the voices of Optimus Prime, Mirage, Arcee, Wheeljack and Stratosphere. We know that Bumblebee will also appear in the film.
On the Maximals side, we have some impressive additions like Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh as Airazor, a Maximal warrior who turns into a peregrine falcon, plus Ron Perlman as Optimus Primal, leader of the Maximals, who turns into a western gorilla. On the side of the Terrorcons is Peter Dinklage as Scourge, leader of the faction. Along with him, among other actors, the presence of Mj Rodriguez in the role of Nightbird stands out, being the first transgender person to participate in the franchise.
In What Part of the Timeline is The Awakening of the Beasts Located?
Transformers: The awakening of the beasts is Paramount’s new commitment to continue the franchise. It should be noted that this film is actually another prequel that will come to the franchise. That’s right, the studio continues to go back in time with stories that take place before its 2007 release, Transformers, to take a place right behind 2018’s Bumblebee.
This means that the upcoming release is a direct-to-film sequel starring Hailee Steinfeld and Dylan O’Brien in the voice of the yellow autobot, whose story already took place in the 1980s. We can assume that the success of the aforementioned spin-off and prequel contributed to this saga finding a new place to explore and while also bringing to the big screen those iconic narratives and toys that fans haven’t seen yet.
What Can We Expect from This Movie?
First, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts was announced as a “standalone sequel” to Bumblebee, so it would be wise not to expect a broad connection to its predecessor. From this project we must expect a linear narrative, with the heroes and villains going to all parts of the world, and with this specific story, characters from the Beast Wars saga that we will talk about in more detail later.
Paramount has claimed that The Rise of the Beasts is not a reboot but rather a serialized film, which could indicate a new franchise direction. We know that this installment will continue to lean on the previous one by setting the story in the 90s, but also promises to show us a great adventure, lots of battles, and more beasts than ever before.
