Danish fraudster Youssef Khater was found guilty of fraud in Denmark and attempted murder in Chile. He had previously served in the Royal Danish Navy for ten years. At the age of 28, Khater was dishonourably dismissed due to fraud.
Khater was detained in 2009 on charges of fraud, arson, embezzlement, and forgery; however, he failed to attend his trial in January 2011. He was found guilty in Chile of attempting to murder a woman from Texas.
In 2015, he completed a marathon in Costa Rica. In Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, he was detained in 2017 before being freed.
Youssef Khater’s Professional Career
With his role in the Netflix comedy “Worst Roommate Ever,” Youssef is best known. Yet, as he has been labelled a “con artist” by numerous sources, little information is accessible concerning his professional career.
Youssef claimed to have been in the Danish military, an athlete, and a football coach. However, it has come to light that he deceived numerous people using his seductive and cunning methods.
He received an $8000 sponsorship to run the entire length of Chile and break records, but he accepted the money before finishing the event.
He scammed his housemates, including Dominic Rayner, a British runner, from whom he took $12,000 in sporting goods and $38,000 in cash. Another roommate, Callie Quinn, was the subject of his attention when he promised to show her a new apartment but instead hit her in the head with a toilet seat and buried her alive after she told a friend about his debt.
Youssef eventually came under capture and admitted to his misdeeds. It became increasingly challenging for law enforcement to convict him because of the case’s global nature. Ultimately, he was transferred from Chile to Denmark.
Youssef almost murdered three people in an attempt to avoid paying debts
Youssef lived in a 12-bedroom house in Santiago with other foreigners. His housemates were captivated by his stories of bravery and tenacity in the Danish army. Youssef also feigned to have a golden heart by occasionally showing great kindness.
Immediately, Khater’s roommates had faith in the gregarious and alluring Palestinian. Yet it took some time for Callie Quinn, a Texan ex-pat living there, to get to know Khater. Ultimately, Quinn’s need for warmth nearly resulted in her demise.
Youssef owed money to Sabine, a housemate who needed the money to travel to Ecuador. Khater also owed money to two people from Mexico who required it to come to Buenos Aires.
Khater created a devious plan to escape responsibility after being unable to raise the money. He revealed to Callie that he had bought a condo in Santiago’s downtown and was renting it out. Callie was thrilled at the chance to live in a heated home because the winter in Chile was extremely chilly.
Quinn met Youssef to pick up the keys after paying the security deposit and the first month’s rent for the home. Quinn would be there with her money at home, Khater informed Sabi. He didn’t want Quinn to go back to the house, though.
He took her to an empty building, where he suffocated her, then buried her beneath a foot of ash. Then Youssef returned home, saying Quinn had run off with the money. Quinn thankfully pulled her severely battered body back to the house.
Dominic Rayner, a British runner, was Youssef’s second target in his attempted murder. Dominic had given Youssef a loan of $38,000 to buy a house while also giving him a $12,000 present of sporting gear.
Youssef took Dominic to a hiking route and assaulted him when he tried to collect his money. Despite having a broken skull, Dominic managed to escape the onslaught. After reaching London, he reported Youssef to the British Met Police and Interpol.
Youssef came dangerously close to killing Callie Quinn, Dominic Rayner, and his Canadian lover to escape paying his debts.
Youssef’s whereabouts are unknown, and he was last sighted in Denmark in 2018
Youssef was detained in Chile after attempting to kill Callie Quinn. He denied punching Quinn at first but then admitted to hitting her in the head. He claimed not to have any murderous intentions, nevertheless.
Yet, a judge found him guilty of attempted murder and fraud and gave him a sentence of almost 600 days. He was immediately deported from Chile to Denmark after being freed, where he was charged with five offences.
For two of the five offences, he was incarcerated for three months. Now a free man, Youssef travelled back to South America, choosing Costa Rica over his former haunt of Chile to rekindle his villainy.
Youssef defrauded an American of $3,500 while using the alias Joseph Carter. It’s possible that he was unable or unwilling to break his habit. He then began dating a Canadian woman to coerce her into giving him money.
By the time he discovered Youssef’s identity, the Canadian woman had lost $19,000. He attempted to kill her with a pillow out of rage but released the grip just in time to save her.
Officials looked into him but concluded that he had legitimately taken money from the Canadian woman’s account because they were in a consensual relationship. Also, there was no incentive for Costa Rican authorities to look into a dispute between two foreigners.
Youssef subsequently took another name – Josef Maria – and captivated another lady, only known by the initials ‘AB’ by Texas Monthly. According to the outlet’s investigation, Youssef joined a running group and participated in the 20th Marathon Costa Rica.
2018 saw the final known sighting of Khater, who was in Denmark. His whereabouts at this time are unclear.
