The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced this Thursday that the VAT on gas will drop from 21% to 5% from October until the end of the year, although he is open to being able to extend it to long 2023 “for the duration of this very difficult situation”.

In an interview on Cadena Ser, Sánchez said that the Government has already reduced electricity-related taxes by 80%, but it can do “much more” and that is why it has proposed the reduction of VAT on gas, in line with the economic policy that it is deploying at the beginning of the energy crisis.

The PP has asked the Government on several occasions for this VAT reduction on gas, in line with that already applied to the electricity tax, and announced that it was one of the proposals that it would formulate in Sánchez’s appearance in the Senate next Tuesday to explain energy saving measures.
