The group to which THQ Nordic belongs plans to buy more than 35 studios

Embracer Group will continue with its strategy of buying studios and companies to expand. The owners of Koch Media and Deep Silver have disclosed this in their 2021/2022 fiscal year financial report. The company thus proposes an acquisition plan similar to that of this year, which will involve the purchase of some 35 studies in the near future.

“In the past 12 months, we have made 37 acquisitions, and we expect run a similar number of transactions over the next 12 months ”, you can read in the report. “We currently have a large volume of active processes and conversations, which includes a remarkable number of signed exclusivity agreements.”

Embracer Group announced at the beginning of the year the acquisition of one of the most powerful studios on the market. Gearbox Software, creators of Borderlands 3, has become part of the conglomerate. This operation will not lead to the departure of Randy Pitchford or the end of the developer’s collaboration with Take-Two Interactive. In fact, the company currently works at Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, a spin-off from Borderlands.

“Gearbox is one of the most creative and valuable independent studios in the world,” commented Lars Wingefors, CEO of Embracer Group, when the purchase was made public. “We believe that the resources offered by Embracer Group will position Gearbox to continue growing significantly in the years to come ”.

One of the most anticipated games from THQ Nordic, another of the large Embracer Group firms, has fallen victim to the coronavirus pandemic. The restart of Saints Row, which was scheduled for February 2022, has been delayed until August 23.
