The Platino Awards: The Countdown Begins

The tenth edition of the Platino Awards is just around the corner, with the IFEMA Municipal Palace in Madrid all set to play host to the great Ibero-American audiovisual festival that will recognize Benicio del Toro with the honorary award. With only five days left to go, the protagonists of the evening are busy finalizing details for this much-awaited event.

Argentina, 1985: The Film with the Most Nominations

The winners of the awards will be revealed among the finalists, among which the film Argentina, 1985 – with Chino Darín as the producer and his father Ricardo as both the producer and protagonist – has received the highest number of nominations.

Padre e hijo Ricardo Darín and Chino Darín will have much to celebrate when the event takes place on Saturday, April 22, as their film Argentina, 1985 has been highly successful since its premiere on September 30, 2022, in around 220 movie theaters in Argentina and 60 more in Spanish territories. It won the 37th Goya Awards as the best Ibero-American film, as well as the Forqué Awards and the 27th Satellite Awards as a foreign-language film.

Although Ricardo Darín and Chino Darín were unable to win the BAFTA 2023, they succeeded at the National Board of Review, where the North American Critics Association awarded their story in the category of freedom of expression. Chino pointed out that both his father Ricardo Darín and his partner Federico Posternak, each the leader of the production company that produced Argentina, 1985, Kenya Films, “left everything on the field”.

A Personal Family Celebration

The chances of Ricardo and Chino going back on stage to collect an award in honor of a job well done are high, following their numerous successes. Meanwhile, father and son are not the only ones celebrating, as Ricardo and his wife, Florencia Bas, are also marking their 35th wedding anniversary.

Chino congratulated his parents on social media, describing them as his “favorite butterfly effect”, while Clara, his sister, added the word “Papitis” along with two heart emoticons, and Úrsula Corberó, Chino’s girlfriend, reacted with a “my goodness” that was accompanied by an emoticon of emotion and another red heart.
