The Little Mermaid Movie: Reason to be a Hit in 2023
Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid has been a controversial topic since the announcement of Halle Bailey’s selection as Ariel. Despite this, there are enough reasons to assume that the movie will be a hit. Within the first four days of its US release, Deadline has projected a domestic gross of $110 million following the long weekend of the May 29th holiday. Box Office Pro estimates data around $70 and $90 million during the first three days. The movie is expected to make an international collection that usually doubles what it brings in the US. All of these projections indicate the movie’s success in the box office.

Relevance of Curiosity in The Little Mermaid Remake
Curiosity is one of the relevant factors why The Little Mermaid could be a hit. The curiosity of children and adults to relive past emotions or to criticize the remake is enormous. This has made every reveal, photo preview, or trailer a topic of conversation on Twitter and elsewhere. The official trailer, which was released during the last Oscars, garnered 108 million views globally in 24 hours. The Ariel doll also represented a faithful likeness of Halle Bailey and became an Amazon bestseller in the US for $14.99 per doll. The infallible factor of nostalgia has also led to other live action remakes such as The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin to surpass $1 billion at the global box office.
About the Little Mermaid Remake
The Little Mermaid remake has been in the conversation since 2019 when Disney announced its choice of a black actress for the role of Ariel. Whether due to racist reactions on social networks or the power of affection for several generations towards the animated film, the remake has not ceased to be present. With the film industry going through a period of hiatus, The Little Mermaid and other movies such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Fast and Furious X, Flash, Indian Jones and the Dial of Fate, Mission: Impossible Death Judgment – Part One, Barbie and Oppenheimer will flood the billboards in the coming months and have moviegoers eager for the blockbuster-flavoured repertoire that awaits us.
The public will have the last word, but indifference is ruled out, and success in the box office can be expected.
