Lovers of classic heroes are in luck: The Rocketeer is coming to Disney + with a new exclusive film titled The Return of the Rocketeer (The return of The Rocketeer), as reported by the medium Deadline.

Disney will revive the 1991 classic film with the help of producers Jessica and David Oyelowo, who could also star in the project. Oyelowo is best known for playing Martin Luther King Jr. in 2014’s Selma. Ed Ricourt (Now You See Me and Jessica Jones) will be responsible for writing this new Rocketeer adventure.

The Return of the Rocketeer will be a reboot of the hero in which he will be a retired aviator who ends up becoming the hero we all know.

The original 1991 Rocketeer film was directed by Joe Johnston, which also directed Captain America: The First Avenger, and was based on a graphic novel about a young pilot who becomes a masked hero who flies with a jetpack.

Despite its poor performance at the box office, The Rocketeer has become a cult film thanks to its classic narrative style and to his equally classical influences. It’s no wonder Marvel has chosen Johnston to direct this new film, as both heroes have that touch of classic and modern history.

In other Disney + news, the streaming platform has already announced all the content that will arrive throughout the month of September. Also, the new Cruella movie is now available free to all subscribers.
