The strategy game “The Settlers” will be available on March 17 for the PC. Ubisoft had postponed the new edition of the cult series several times, most recently without naming a new release date. Now it should be quick: On January 20th a closed beta of the strategy game will start.
For this closed beta, you can register at the official website of “The Settlers” Sign in. A Ubisoft account is required. After all, you can also buy the game there, and it is also offered in the Epic Games Store – there is no talk of a release on Steam. The closed beta is playable between January 20th and 24th. The pre-load is scheduled to begin on January 18th.
Wuseln in Snowdrop-Engine
“The Settlers” is being developed by Ubisoft Düsseldorf, formerly Blue Byte, based on Ubisoft’s in-house Snowdrop engine. Ubisoft wants to freshen up the bustling aesthetic of the original parts with modernized gameplay mechanics. At its core, however, “The Settlers” remains true to its roots: players build villages, recruit units and fight hostile factions.
“The Settlers” should offer three game modes: In addition to the single-player campaign, there are also the “Onslaught” and “Skirmish” modes. You can choose to play cooperatively against the AI or in PvP mode with up to eight players. There are three playable factions.
Heise online was able to allude to an early version of “The Settlers” at Gamescom 2018. Visually, not much has happened since then, based on the trailer that has now been released, but in terms of gameplay it should have been quite crunchy internally – there is hardly any other way to explain the ongoing radio silence and the release confusion.
