The phenomenon of the medical series She’s in her best moment! In times where it was revalued the essential work health workers do since the coronavirus pandemic, health shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, The Good Doctor and New Amsterdam increased their audience levels and are trending on the platform wherever they go. However, none of the three shows invented the genre: know its history and the drama that started its path.
The present of the medical series is unbeatable. In addition to other hits like House, The Resident O Chicago Med, the screens are governed by three productions that stand out from the rest. Grey’s Anatomy renewed for a season 18, The Good Doctor is among the most watched worldwide since its arrival on Netflix and New Amsterdam also revolutionized the N platform when it arrived in February.
These events owe part of their high audience levels to the journey that the genre made over the years and there appears the series that inspired them: IS (ER, Emergencies in Argentina and Emergency Room in Latin America). The show aired on NBC during 15 seasons between 1994 and 2009, following the professional and personal lives of the doctors in the emergency room of the Hospital County General Cook County, Chicago.
ER had an impressive cast that had figures such as Anthony Edwards, George Clooney, Sherry Stringfield, Eriq La Salle, Julianna Margulies, Gloria Reuben, Laura Innes and Maria Bello. Its phenomenon translated into awards because it became the most Emmy-nominated series with 124, of which it won 23.

All 331 episodes of the acclaimed series are available at Hulu since 2018. Unfortunately, at the moment the platform is not in Latin America. However, the arrival of Star + will include titles currently owned by Disney streaming, although ER is not yet on the list of content to be migrated.
Another reference in the genre, although with a different style, is General Hospital. The ABC show broke the record as the longest-running series in American television history. It has currently been on the air for 58 years and has more than 14 thousand episodes aired.
