The stock markets, pending central banks on interest rate hikes

Next week, after the break of this, is decisive for the markets since the meetings of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) of the Fed, the ECB and the Bank of England are held, in which a new interest rate hike will be decided, whose amount is uncertain, and the keys will be given on how many more hikes there will be.

In addition to focusing interest on central bank meetings, markets will be attentive to industrial production data, PMI, inflation or the German ZEW survey, according to analysts at Singular Bank.

In Europe, it will not be until Tuesday 13 when data of interest begin to be known, such as the CPI or the ZEW index of investor confidence in Germany, as highlighted to EFE by CMC Markets market analyst Luis Francisco Ruiz.

On Wednesday, the 14th, the evolution of industrial production in the euro area in October will be published, and in Spain, the CPI data for November.

A day later, on Thursday 15, the monetary policy meeting of the Bank of England will take place, with the consensus of analysts projecting an increase in the official interest rate of 50 basis points to 3.5% from the current 3%.

That same day, the ECB’s decision on the rate hike will also be known, which in this case is expected to be 50 basis points and to go from the current 2% to 2.5%.

Already on Friday 16, the preliminary data of the December PMIs in the euro area will be published.

In the US, attention will also be on the Federal Reserve (Fed) meeting and the November inflation data.

On Tuesday the evolution of prices will be known, while a day later, on Wednesday, the Fed will decide the next movement of the official US interest rates.

Analysts expect, according to Ruiz, a rise of 50 basis points and stressed that the market is discounting that they rise from 4% to 4.5% to control inflation.

Already on Thursday, the industrial production figures for November will be published.

In the Asia-Pacific region, investors’ attention regarding China’s economic data will focus on the evolution of retail sales and industrial production in November, which will be published on Thursday 15, especially after interest in recent days has been placed on the announcements of the Chinese authorities of different measures to ease mobility restrictions, Control and quarantine of the Zero Covid policy

In Japan, the November producer price index will be released on Monday.
