The United Kingdom has registered in its territory six cases of the Lambda variant, detected for the first time in Peru. The data was provided in the framework of the last update published this Friday by the Public Health of England (PHE, for its acronym in English), executive agency of the Department of Health and Welfare.

It is specified that all infections of this strain, also known as C.37, are related to travel abroad. The British Government described this June 23 to Lambda as “a variant under investigation“due to the presence of mutations and international spread. In total, C.37 has been located in 26 countries, according to PHE estimates.

From the entity they point out that “currently no test that this variant causes more serious disease or makes currently used vaccines less effective“.

Regarding the spread of the Delta variant, originally recorded in India in October 2020, the agency posted 35,204 new infections, which brings the total number of infected with this strain to 111,157. Currently, this variant represents about 95% of all sequenced cases in the country.
