Forbes magazine released its ready annual of the 100 most influential and powerful women in the world in 2021. For this edition, the writer MacKenzie Scott, ex-wife of the founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, heads the ‘ranking’.
Scott is the third richest woman in the world, but according to the American magazine, she was named the most powerful woman because of her “determination” to donate money “in a meaningful and revolutionary way.”
For the first time since 2011 there is German Chancellor Angela Merkel who appears in first place. In fact, Merkel is no longer on the list.
The second place is occupied by the vice president of the United States, Kamala Harris, who switched positions on the list with the president of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde. In fourth place is the CEO of General Motors, Mary Barra, followed by the businesswoman and ex-wife of Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Melinda Gates.
“All these women represent the driving thesis of the list: it is not enough to have money or a position of power,” says the media. Thus, to be part of the ‘ranking’, the person must do something significant with “his fortune, voice or public platform”.
According to Forbes, these women “are rewriting the rules of business, finance and politics” and it is now that their work is especially needed.
