Our favorite TV dad is moving from Orange County to Seattle!
Peter Gallagher, perhaps best known to readers of E! as Sandy Cohen in The O.C., will be joining Grey’s Anatomy as a recurring cast member for season 18, as confirmed by ABC to E! News.
According Deadline, “Your character may be the key” to how the character of Kate Burton, Ellis Gray, will return to the medical drama. The outlet reports that Peter will play Dr. Alan Hamilton, an old friend of Meredith’s late mother. He will reunite with Meredith (played by Ellen Pompeo) in the first episode of the season, which is scheduled to premiere on September 30.
Peter’s arrival isn’t the only cast shakeup in recent months. Viewers have been saying goodbye to some of the show’s beloved doctors, including Andrew DeLuca, played by Giacomo Gianniotti. On the other hand, Derek Shepard (Patrick Dempsey) and April Kepner (Sarah Drew) returned for guest appearances last season.
As for Peter, the Golden Globe winner is no stranger to great television series. He recently appeared on our screens as Nick in Grace & Frankie, Mitch en Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist y William Dodds and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. However, fans may also recognize the 66-year-old actor for his previous roles in Palm Springs, A Bad Moms Christmas, New Girl and Californication.
Of course, off screen, Peter is also the father of the actress Kathryn Gallagher, who recently won a Grammy for his role in the Broadway musical Jagged Little Pill.
She may have had something to do with her interest in joining the cast of Grey’s Anatomy. Kathryn is a huge fan of the ABC show, calling herself a “life fanatic.” After news spread that her father was entering the world of Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital, she revealed her reaction on her Instagram story. “No I didn’t cry when he told me,” he joked. “THE HARDEST SECRET YOU’VE EVER HAD TO KEEP”.
Earlier this year, Kathryn shared the main way her dad is like Sandy Cohen – they both love bagels!
