The month of August arrives and with it the moment to apply my own tips to create the perfect suitcase, without fear of forgetting anything in the place of origin … With everything properly packaged, and with the umpteenth mental review of the must for these days of rest we set out on the road, with certain nerves in our stomach, which will lead us to Marbella, the vacation spot that repeats itself in my imagination since my earliest childhood every time I evoke this magical word … vacation …

Thus, from Madrid by birth and from Marbella by adoption in the summer season, the whole family landed, loaded with suitcases that will return with the best memories, those that do not weigh, in this unique municipality of the Costa del Sol.

A place that has 27 kilometers of wonderful sandy beaches bathed by the warm Mediterranean that contrasts with the surrounding Sierra Blanca mountains. About 115 square kilometers of city where you can enjoy perfect plans both day and night and the well-known Marbella luxury that returns to recover the splendor of years ago.

To start the day and recharge your batteries, nothing better than enjoying breakfast at the innovative Rosas Café. A completely unique culinary concept in which they claim to be able to satisfy even the most sweet tooth through a healthy cuisine. Its menu has a wide variety that goes from offering from French pastries to quinoa salads in an environment made with the most exquisite taste (and never better said). A coffee that adapts to the times with its service take away And that also offers you a catering if what you have is an event with which to surprise your guests. In addition, it is a local dog friendly in which your pets will feel at home … What more could you ask for?

Well, something else … leave this beautiful place and, previously protected, move to one of the 24 beaches in Marbella. Among my favorites, the beach of La Plage where you can calmly sunbathe to recharge yourself with vitamin D and be able to face a walk through the old town of Marbella. A walk that allows you to treasure part of the Marbella culture, breathe the maritime flavor of the city and immerse yourself in its Arab influence that is evident in the structure of its narrow streets to reach authentic works of art such as the Chapel of San Juan de Dios, Montenebro street and Plaza de los Naranjos, where you can enjoy of typical Andalusian aesthetics and, in contrast, the Arab Urban Wall, a fortification declared a Site of Cultural Interest, which contained an old Arab medina and whose castle is the most important Muslim vestige that is preserved in the municipality. In it we can find different architectural methods and styles, which are superimposed from other times, and we can even see some embedded Roman capitals.

My favourite places

We finish this particular tour by recharging our strength in a very Madrid corner, the recently opened Chocolatería San Ginés. A piece of the capital’s history, which opened its first coffee shop in 1894, and which we can now enjoy in Tokyo, Shanghai, Bogotá and, of course, also in Marbella.

A delicious snack that we can reduce with a bike ride along the promenade, where we can be surprised by the views offered by the luxurious yachts that dock in the port. Another of the attractions of Marbella, like going shopping on its Golden Mile where the most exclusive brands are located in this Mecca of Spanish luxury.

My favorite stores are many, so I am going to highlight the one of the top Mexican designer Daniela Villa, an international icon in which we can acquire one of her wonderful outfits to enjoy the well-known Marbella night in one of its elegant clubs or with the than feeling like authentic top models parading with friends, to the rhythm of the music.

And, to end the day, my most personal recommendation, the Marbella Club Hotel. A five-star resort, with an elegant simplicity that for me is a must since I went to enjoy a wonderful dinner in the company of my parents since my earliest childhood.

Memories that remain etched in the soul and that have already become a tradition within the Oliva family when we visit this corner of the Spanish geography.
