Only five months before the premiere of the last film that will have Tom Holland as part of Marvel, Spiderman: no way home, the comparisons between him and his predecessors wearing the red suit, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, resurfaced. It is that, despite the different periods in which his films were given, it is still debated which of the three was the best interpreter of Peter Parker.
Regarding the performance of Tom HollandIt could be said that he decided to give a more youthful and relaxed air to the role of the super arachnid despite all the tragedies that marked Peter’s life. On the other hand, Maguire and Garfield opted for a more withdrawn and, of course, suffered personality of this very important character in the MCU.
However, even though Holland is the current Spiderman and only Andrew and Tobey are considered to be his ancestors, the reality is that they were not the first. It is that, many years before Maguire was considered the first superhero in a red suit, there were two more actors who put themselves in the shoes of this role.
The first actor to truly play Spidey is Danny Seagren in a series called The Amazing Spiderman, which was made up of 14 chapters. Although, it should be noted that the actor’s face was never seen and he spoke through balloons with text, just like in the comics, looking for the child audience he was addressing to practice reading.
But, the most curious fact about this strip is that Morgan Freeman was the one who narrated Peter Parker’s first adventure before reaching fame. In the chapters, the friendly neighbor was dedicated to thwarting the bad acts of insignificant criminals, something very similar to what happens in the well-known films.
And, after Seagren, Maguire does not arrive, but Nicholas Hammond’s name appears. This actor is the forgotten Spiderman of the 1970s, who starred in three films: Spiderman, Spider-Man (1977), Spiderman 2: Spider-Man in Action (1978) Y Spiderman and the Dragon Challenge (1979).
