In a recent update, Tom Parker Bowles, the son of Queen Camilla, shared insights regarding the health of his mother and King Charles III amid his ongoing battle with cancer.
Speaking while promoting his new cookbook on September 24, Parker Bowles, 49, reassured the public, saying, “The doctor says the treatment is going well.” He also highlighted Queen Camilla’s strong character, stating, “She’s tough, my mother.”
Camilla, 77, shares Tom with her ex-husband, Andrew Parker Bowles. The couple was married from 1973 until their divorce in 1995. In 2005, Camilla married Charles, now 75, who has two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, from his late marriage to Princess Diana.
Earlier this year, Charles disclosed that he had been diagnosed with cancer following a medical procedure for an enlarged prostate. He has not publicly specified the type of cancer he is facing.
A statement from Buckingham Palace revealed that during his recent hospitalization for benign prostate enlargement, “a separate issue of concern was noted.” Subsequent tests confirmed a diagnosis of cancer, prompting the King to reduce his royal engagements.
Despite the challenges, the monarch expressed gratitude towards his medical team and remains optimistic about his treatment. He chose to make his health status known to avoid speculation and to promote awareness for cancer patients worldwide.
Royal author Robert Jobson noted that Camilla was initially hesitant about the King going public with his diagnosis. In an interview, Jobson mentioned, “The king overruled her,” emphasizing that he believed it was important for men experiencing similar health issues to seek medical attention promptly.
In April, Charles made his first public appearance since his diagnosis by visiting a cancer center in London with Camilla by his side. He has been seen at various royal events and engagements, including an occasion in Southport, England, where he shared that he was feeling “not too bad” despite his ongoing health concerns.
Upcoming plans for the royal couple include a trip to Australia and Samoa next month for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. However, Charles has expressed disappointment in not being able to visit New Zealand as he wished. Advised by his doctor, he canceled this leg of the trip.
Addressing members of New Zealand’s Black Ferns rugby team in London earlier this month, Charles extended his apologies for missing out on the opportunity to visit their homeland, stating, “I’m extremely sorry I can’t come to New Zealand in late October because of doctor’s orders. I hope there’ll be another excuse [to come] before it’s not too long.”
