Football is arguably the most popular sport in the world. It is, without a doubt, the most widespread and played sport on the planet. Popular players annually make millions from not only representing the sport but endorsing products such as footwear, clothing, colognes, cars, and video games. This is a list of the 4 most followed football players on the planet right now.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo

This world-renowned football player is one of the most famous people in the world based on his hugely successful career in international football. The 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo hails from Portugal, plays for Manchester Utd, and is the current captain of the international Portuguese team. He has been playing professionally for nearly 20 years and his consistent skill on the field has made him a legend of the sport even at such a young age. Such skill in the sport is an almost once-in-a-lifetime thing to see, but as the list goes on you will see that is not necessarily the case. Every football enthusiast around the world has their favorite player be it current or in the past, but Ronaldo is a major fan favorite with contemporary football lovers.

2. Lionel Messi

Messi is often considered to be one of the current best players in the world and also one of the best of all time. He is the captain of the Argentinian team and started young, moving to Barcelona at the age of 13 to follow his passion. His tenacity has paid off as can be seen with the current and ongoing success he has today. Although comparatively small in stature, he exudes a resolve that has become a part of his game plan. His success on the field has led him to be a trusted figure for products such as Adidas and is still one of the highest-earning sportsmen in history. Legendary footballer Diego Maradona even said back in 2006 that the fellow Argentinian was his successor and likely the best person to ever play the game.

3. Ronaldinho

He is retired now but Ronaldinho is still revered and respected as one of the greatest football players of all time. The Brazilian left a legacy that cannot be tarnished no matter how you try. His sportsmanship was second to none and has earnt his legacy as a world-class player. He got started professionally in 1998 when he was signed up with the Grêmio youth squad, which is considered one of the most influential football academies in the world. If he was still playing now, the 2022 FIFA World Cup betting would be heavily dependent on whatever team he was playing for. His immaculate skill in the game was noted early on and he was quickly sought after by major European teams including Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain who picked him up in 2001 for a five-year contract. His future was bright after that and had even more success with AC Milan and is one of the few football players to win the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA Champions League, and the Ballon d’Or, a feat that should be admired, to say the least. He retired in early 2018 at the age of 38 but is still considered a respected and important part of the world’s football community.

4. David Beckham

Maybe the best-known English soccer player in the world, Beckham is the soft-spoken, handsome football player who has had an incredibly successful career playing for teams such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain. He was no stranger to the game growing up with both his parents being avid supporters of Manchester United and often attending matches that were 200 miles away. There can be no doubt about the skill this man possessed in the game and is an ongoing positive role model for future world football champions.
