Rumors of a high-performance Toyota Corolla have been ringing for a while, and even the brand itself has hinted at it through multiple teasers, but they hadn’t set a release date, until now. Toyota confirms the global premiere of the new gr family member this week.

Without going into many details or even publishing a photo of the car, the Japanese firm asks us to keep an eye on March 31, for the live presentation of the GR Corolla in North America.

According to the latest reports, its new model could inherit the same 1.6-liter turbo engine from the GR Yaris, capable of developing (at least) 257 hp and 265 lb-ft. The GR Corolla will also feature the GR Four all-wheel-drive system, sports differentials, and (most likely) a six-speed manual transmission.

The launch will focus, for the time being, on the US market, although it is very likely that the Toyota GR Corolla will expand to Japan and Europe.
