Trina McGee of ‘Boy Meets World’ shares miscarriage after age 54 pregnancy

Trina McGee, known for her role in “Boy Meets World,” recently shared the heartbreaking news that she has experienced a miscarriage after announcing her pregnancy earlier this summer. The actress revealed she was expecting her fourth child at the age of 54, but during an emotional appearance on “The Tamron Hall Show,” she disclosed that she is no longer pregnant.

In a tearful moment on the daytime talk show, McGee opened up about her loss, stating, “I did lose the baby. It wasn’t expected. It was closer to the end of the first trimester. We really don’t have any real reasons why.” Despite the grief, she expressed gratitude for the experience of conceiving at her age.

However, the experience has taken a toll on her mental health, leading to feelings of depression that made even getting out of bed difficult. “There are so many things that come when you really want a family and you want your family to be complete, and there’s so many dreams that you have,” McGee shared. “And it’s really hard to face the fact that that’s not going to happen at this point in the junction.”

The actress also discussed her uncertainty about trying to conceive again, saying, “Part of me doesn’t ever want to go through this again.” She added, “The conclusion I came to is, we’ll just keep loving each other, if something happens that way, fine, but I don’t want to put another anxiety on myself. Sometimes it really is better to let go and let God.”

During her conversation with Hall, McGee noted that many women had reached out to her after her announcement about her pregnancy. Hall expressed surprise when she learned during their pre-interview discussions that McGee’s pregnancy had ended. McGee gained prominence as Angela Moore on the popular television series and its Disney Channel sequel, “Girl Meets World.” Married to Marcello Thedford for 16 years, McGee has three adult children from previous relationships.

While discussing her journey toward pregnancy, McGee explained that she and her husband were trying to conceive, but not in an overly aggressive manner. They experimented with natural remedies and embraced a more carefree approach, wanting to enjoy the process.

Hall pointed out that many women at the age of 54 are typically experiencing perimenopause or menopause, which marks the end of their reproductive years. The average age for menopause, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, is 51. Black women, according to some studies, tend to go through menopause earlier.

Now 55, McGee noted that her menstrual cycle had slowed, leading her to believe she was in perimenopause when she became pregnant. Regardless, she still desired to expand her family. “I’m a very athletic-type person. I feel very young. I feel like I can bend over and pick up a child. And I wanted that experience with my current husband,” she shared. She expressed her desire to impart her acquired knowledge to a child she would raise at this stage in her life.

McGee and her husband relocated to Belize, where they sought the support of family and sought guidance from a holistic healer. She focused on reducing stress, connecting with her “feminine energy,” improving her diet, and adopting a healthier mindset during that period.

Reflecting on her initial excitement about the pregnancy, McGee admitted, “To be honest, I might’ve been a little immature about the pregnancy in that I was so excited. And so shocked.” She recognized that although she faced criticism, many women over 55 still aspire to become pregnant and reject the label of “geriatric pregnancy.”

Nevertheless, she emphasized, “Everybody’s body is different, and you really should listen to your doctors and what they’re telling you about where you’re at.”
