On August 6, an Australian military man was attacked by a crocodile as he and a colleague bathed after ignoring warnings in a reptile-infested area near a coastal town in the northern Australian state of Queensland. The victim suffered serious head and chest injuries, but was rescued by his partner, who was also injured in his arms and hands, they report local media.
A helicopter transported the military to the hospital, where both remain in stable condition.
According to data from the Government of the Northern Territory, the state with the largest number of crocodiles in the country, in the northern part of Australia live between 100,000 and 200,000 saltwater crocodiles, endemic to the area, pick up CNN. The Queensland Department of the Environment will investigate the incident.
