The world’s most vulnerable people are “paying a horrible price for decades of intransigence by major emitters,” UN Secretary-General António Guterres said on Wednesday.

“The G20 countries are responsible for 80% of emissions. They are also suffering the impact of unprecedented droughts, fires and floods,” Guterres told reporters in New York after returning from Pakistan, where he saw the impact of devastating floods.

“However, climate action appears to be at a standstill,” he said, before adding that his message to world leaders is: “Turn down the heat now.”
