The United States Government Launches New Mobile App for Visa Waiver Application Process

The United States Government announced this Wednesday the launch of a new application for phones or other mobile devices, available in 24 languages, which facilitates the visa waiver application process for foreign visitors.

The Office of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) indicated that the application was designed for travelers from 40 countries who are granted permission by the Department of Homeland Security to visit the United States, whether for tourism or business, for up to 90 days without a visa.

Program of Visa Waiver includes Spain and Chile

Among the countries included in the Program of Visa Waiver includes two Spanish-speaking ones: Spain and Chile.

The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA)

We recommend The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) was established as part of the visa waiver program and, according to the Government, has the purpose of strengthening travel security to the country.

ESTA is an automated system that determines if visitors traveling to the United States are eligible under that program or if they pose a risk to public safety or national security.

“The new ESTA app strengthens CBP’s mobile app strategy,” said Matthew Davies, executive director of the agency’s eligibility program. “We will continue to innovate and apply technologies to facilitate our procedures, meeting the expectations of travelers.”

Easy Application Process with the ESTA App

Foreigners who wish to travel to the US within the program can open the ESTA application on their mobile device with which they scan their passport and download a photo to confirm their identity.

They then confirm personal and travel details, answer questions about their visa waiver eligibility, review data, and receive app notifications and updates.

Prior to the launch of the mobile app, Travelers requested travel authorization only through the CBP website, which continues to process applications.

CBP indicated that travelers interested in this process can download the ESTA application free of charge for both devices that use the Apple operating system and for those who use the Android system.
