Shakira debuts new song “Copa Vacía” with Manuel Turizo
Shakira premiered her new song “Copa Vacía” on Thursday night, alongside fellow Colombian artist Manuel Turizo. The single has already garnered over a million views on YouTube within just two hours. The music video depicts Shakira as a mermaid, symbolizing a love that she describes as “colder than the month of January”.
Familiar theme of heartbreak in Shakira’s lyrics
The lyrics of “Copa Vacía” follow the same style as Shakira’s previous collaborations with Karol G and Bizarrap, where themes of breakup and heartbreak take center stage. In their first long-awaited collaboration, titled “TQG”, Karol G and Shakira emphasize that they do not repeat past “mistakes” and refuse to compete for men.
Shakira begins the song by singing, “You see it like this, at this rate it cannot continue /I don’t know what else to do to get more from you /Because you don’t want when I want /You are colder than the month of January /I ask for heat and you don’t give more than ice”. The chorus, accompanied by Turizo, expresses Shakira’s longing for a love that remains unquenched, comparing it to wanting to drink from an empty glass.
The song continues with Shakira expressing that a little leisure would benefit her love, and that one doesn’t have to be a poet to captivate her. She urges her partner to “drop the phone, use your hand with me,” as she appears trapped in what seems like a giant aquarium.
A follow-up to “Acrostico” featuring her children
“Copa Vacía” was released a month and a half after Shakira’s explosive video for “Acrostico”, which prominently featured her children Milan and Sasha. The song will be part of Shakira’s upcoming album, which will also include tracks like “Monotonía”, “Te felicito”, and her collaboration with Bizarrap.

“You see it like this, at this rate it can’t go on / I don’t know what else to do to get more from you / Because you don’t want to when I want to / You’re colder than the month of January / I ask for heat and you don’t give more than ice / I’ve been thirsty for you for a while / I don’t know why I’m left wanting more and wanting to drink from an empty glass (bis) / You’re always busy with so much business / It would do you good, my love, a little leisure / Relax here on the sofa and give me your attention / There is no than being a poet to sweeten my ear / Put down the phone, use your hand with me / You look so different / And I’m swimming against the current / He has me on the street looking for something to fill this void that he feels / I’m not a mechanic, but I try to fix it and it doesn’t work / Reviving a heart that doesn’t react / I don’t want to try it with another person / I’ve been thirsty for you for a while now / I don’t know why I’m left wanting more and wanting to drink from an empty cup (bis) / Your kisses are salt water / I drink and nothing calms me down / I wait for you and you disappoint me / And that’s not how it works / But you don’t want to when I want to / You’re colder than the month of January / I warm you up, but you always have ice / I’ve been thirsty for you for a while now / I don’t know why I’m left wanting more and wanting to drink from an empty glass (bis)”.
