Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has finally arrived after numerous delays, and it comes with two post-credit scenes that offer hints as to what’s next for the franchise’s heroes. Spoilers for the movie ahead!

The first scene features a new version of the Guardians of the Galaxy led by Rocket, as the new captain. The team includes Kraglin, Cosmo, Adam Warlock, a huge version of Groot, and Phyla, one of the girls the villain experimented on. It looks like this is a variant of Phyla-Vell, who eventually takes up the mantle of Captain Marvel in the comics. They prepare to fight alien creatures.

The second scene sees Peter Quill back on Earth having breakfast with his grandfather, whom he hadn’t seen since the Ravagers kidnapped him from the planet. They discuss helping their neighbor mow her lawn while reading a journal about the alien abduction of Kevin Bacon, which was the focus of Guardians Of The Galaxy: Holiday Special. The sequence ends with the tagline, “The legendary Star-Lord will return.”

Although none of these scenes seem to connect directly with any of the many projects that Marvel Studios has on the way, the second one is perhaps the most revealing in the sense that Star-Lord will be back. This could serve as a connection between the Earth heroes and the galactic dimension of the franchise as the confrontation with Kang becomes increasingly imminent. We will have to see what other project he ends up appearing in and what characters on the planet he crosses paths with.

As for more space heroes, The Marvels is the third and final film in the franchise that we will see this year. Before that, the Secret Invasion series will also arrive on Disney Plus at the end of June, which will narrate the attempt of a group of aliens to try to conquer the planet. We’ll have to wait and see if any of the new Guardians appear in either of these titles.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a fitting end to the franchise’s trilogy and signals another exciting chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios Chief Kevin Feige gave James Gunn complete freedom to kill any character in the team, and it seems that this creative freedom has resulted in an impressive movie.
