A third lava flow descended this Saturday afternoon on the north flank of the Cumbre Vieja volcano, on the Canary Island of La Palma, in Spain.

The spectacular fiery river was filmed by the geologist Raúl Pérez, from the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain.

According the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (Involcán), the lava river “is generating tremendous destruction in its wake” and hinders the movement of its teams in the area. However, the technical director of the Canary Islands Volcanic Emergency Plan (Pevolca), Miguel Ángel Morcuende, stressed that the damage still needs to be assessed and called for “tranquility”, pick up the Antena 3 channel.

According to the latest data, the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja, which has lasted for three weeks since it began on September 19, has devastated 497 hectares, has destroyed 1,186 buildings and has disabled 38.3 kilometers of roads.
