Tennis player Serena Williams, winner of dozens of individual titles in Grand Slam tournaments, suffered an injury in the first round match of the Wimbledon Championship against Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich, and had to leave the court amid tears and applause from the spectators.

Williams started the game wearing kinesiology tapes on his right thigh. As the game progressed, it became apparent that he was suffering from leg discomfort. After falling to the grass in the seventh game of the first set and struggling to recover, he decided not to continue on the track and burst into tears to the ovation of the public.

For the American player, who had already triumphed seven times at the Wimbledon Championship, this is the third unsuccessful attempt to win the trophy in the last three years. In 2018 and 2019 she lost the finals against Angelique Kerber (Germany) and Simona Halep (Romania) respectively.
