Thien An Pham Wins Camera d’Or in Cannes for Debut Film
The Vietnamese filmmaker Thien An Pham has won the prestigious Camera d’Or award at the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival for his debut feature film “Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell”. The film is an international co-production that includes Barcelona-based production company Fasten Films among its partners.
Golden Camera Award
The Golden Camera award is presented to the best directorial debut among all the films screened at the Festival and its parallel sections. “Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell” was screened at the Directors’ Fortnight section in Cannes. The film tells the story of a man who returns to his village in Vietnam with his 5-year-old nephew after the death of the boy’s mother.
A Team with No Experience
For his first film, Thien An Pham surrounded himself with a team made up mostly of members with no previous experience, as he explained in an interview with producer Adrià Monés at Cannes. This approach has clearly paid off with the recognition of his outstanding debut.
Closing Gala
The Camera d’Or award was announced at the closing gala of the Cannes Film Festival. The Palme d’Or for feature films will also be announced later.
