Fast & Furious X: Vin Diesel Teases Possibility of Twelfth Movie
Fans of the Fast & Furious franchise might get more than they bargained for, according to Vin Diesel. Although it was previously announced that Fast & Furious X would be the penultimate film in the series, Diesel is now teasing the possibility of a twelfth installment.
During the premiere of Fast & Furious X in Rome, Italy, Diesel cryptically hinted at the idea of a twelfth film. The actor revealed that the studio wanted the finale to be a trilogy that would culminate in a twelfth film, rather than an eleventh as previously announced.
In response to a question about the future of his character, Dom, Diesel said: “As filmmakers, you want to let people enjoy the film without saying goodbye completely. This is what I can say: when making this movie, the studio asked if it could be split into two parts. Then the studio saw the first part and asked ‘could you make X-Rapids, the finale, a trilogy?’ But I don’t want to get in trouble.”
The tenth film sees Dom and his team facing off against a new antagonist in the form of Dante Reyes, who is seeking revenge against Dom’s family. The franchise has become one of the highest grossing in the last 20 years, but with a very tight and post-pandemic billboard in the summer of 2023, Fast & Furious X may face competition from a host of other blockbusters, such as The Little Mermaid, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Transformers: Beasts Awakening, and The Flash.
The cast will come to the Mexican capital to promote the launch of the film, which opens on May 18. So, make sure you catch this penultimate installment if you want to see how the trilogy finale might play out.
In the meantime, fans can reflect on the success of the franchise and how it has evolved over the years. From its humble beginnings with an undercover cop looking to stop an auto parts thief, to its current state with space cars and special paramilitary squads to combat global threats, the Fast & Furious franchise has truly come a long way.
The eccentric sense of reality of the saga will surely be missed, but we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Diesel and his fast and furious friends.
