The Vivaldi web browser is available on Android’s car operating system for the Polestar 2 electric car. The full-fledged web browser for the Android Automotive OS (AAOS) can be installed via the Google Play Store. In addition, there should be regular updates for the 11-inch center display.

Android’s Automotive OS operating system has a Webview componentthat should only display selected content such as terms of use and guidelines so as not to distract drivers. According to Vivaldi, it is the first full-fledged web browser to be integrated into the Android Automotive OS operating system, which has been available for Polestar 2 since the beginning of 2021, at the customer’s request.

Developed by a Norwegian team, the browser works similarly to a mobile device with tab navigation, streaming functions, online shopping and more. Among other things, it should offer an integrated ad blocker, tracking protection, a privacy-friendly translation tool, a function for notes and an encrypted synchronization function.

Anyone who thinks they could watch YouTube while driving is wrong. It is not possible to use the browser while driving. As soon as the car moves, content is played back in audio format. There are also other restrictions, for example files cannot be downloaded while driving.

The vehicle does not save data processed in a private browser window. According to Vivaldi, the data linked by users with a Vivalid account will not be shared with Polestar. The Vivaldi browser, introduced in 2016, aims to be one of the most functional, adaptable and privacy-protecting browsers in the future.
