VW agrees collaborations with Umicore, 24M Technologies and Vulcan Energy

Frankfurt (Germany), Dec 8 (EFE) .- The automotive group Volkswagen has agreed to collaborations with the consortium of materials technologies Umicore, the battery specialist 24M Technologies and the clean technology company Vulcan Energy Resources to strengthen its position in batteries.

Volkswagen reported this Wednesday that these partners are independent from each other but have a common goal which is “the industrialization of battery technology and mass production of innovative and sustainable batteries.”

The German car group plans to build six large battery factories in Europe by 2030.

Volkswagen already has battery factories, one of them in the Swedish town of Skellefteå and another in the German town of Salzgitter.

The production of high-end batteries will be concentrated with Northvolt at the “Northvolt Ett” gigafactory in Skellefteå, northeast Sweden.

The factory in Salzgitter in northern Germany will produce batteries for the high-volume segment from 2025.
