On April 9, the death of the American rapper DMX was confirmed. The information that was given at that time indicated that the artist had died after having been hospitalized for several days after suffering a heart attack.

Now, almost 3 months after his death, the official cause of his death has been revealed: the rapper died at age 50 of a cocaine-induced heart attack that cut off blood flow to his brain. A fatal combination.

“It was cardiac arrest for a period of time, so there was no circulation in the brain,” a source from the Westchester medical examiner’s office said, Vulture reports.

The events that led to his death were caused by acute cocaine intoxication, the source said, adding that “his death literally happened immediately because the brain was dead … So, obviously, there were several days when he was on ventilatory support and so on in the hospital… However, he was brain dead from the beginning. He never woke up from the coma.”

In recent years, perhaps too many, a black cloud with drops of tragedy has crept into the rap music genre. With deep sorrow for all his people, Earl Simmons, known as DMX, leaves us at 50. His family and loved ones have been surrounded by all his fans, but they have also had to deny some erroneous news about the fatal event. His family has issued, through his press chief, the following statement:

«We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, passed away at age 50 at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being put on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought to the end. He loved his family with all his heart and we appreciate the time we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans around the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Respect our privacy as we mourn the loss of our brother, father, uncle, and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial once the details are finalized.”

With a tweet, his friend and also rapper ICE T spoke out about the fatal event: “My most sincere love and prayers are with my friend DMX during this difficult time.” Many have joined these prayers for the rapper, offering support to a loved one. In addition, his lawyer Murray Richman, has revealed the project in which the rapper was working, ensuring that he was in the middle of shooting a film.

Undeniable Legacy

A true legacy with great importance in its beginnings, with a more aggressive and dark style both in the lyrics and in the rhythms; DMX burst onto the New York hip hop scene when pop-rap or R&B reigned, imposing its style and filling the void left by other artists, such as Tupac or Notorious B.I.G. With no respite to climb the charts, Earl Simmons, has won countless awards and his albums have quickly been placed at number 1. Their first album, It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot (Def Jam Recordings, 1998), debuted on the Billboard 200 chart as No. 1, as well as being considered a multi-platinum record. It should also be noted that the rest of his discography has nothing to envy to his debut album.

Several charges and accusations have reported him on occasion to jail and his relationship with drugs is already more than known. However, few will manage to sell so many copies worldwide or so many awards; and bring his style and message to so many eardrums. This is how he defined it himself in a statement: “The standard to which I stand is the same: better than everything I hear.”

After this tragic news, from here we only wish that Descansos En Paz, a great teacher.

In his honor, we leave you one of his pieces here below.
