The most used instant messaging application in the world, WhatsApp, is working on another new tool capable of offering you a totally different experience if you are part of a group chat. This is the ‘Communities’ function. Do you want to know what this option means and what will this option do? We will explain it below.
Basically, it is a space where administrators will have greater control over groups of WhatsApp that they manage, means that they will be able to create a community chat within a group chat, for example: if there are 20 students in a classroom, the WhatsApp group could be divided into 4 communities of five users to develop the topic that the teacher has left them.
According to the web portal dedicated to sharing the latest tools of WhatsApp, we refer to WabetaInfo, the only ones who will be able to speak in a community are its members and administrators. Its operation is similar to the Discord application, because here each channel is divided into subchannels, likewise, other people can also be added manually or through a public or private shared link.
It is important to clarify that both group chats and communities will continue to have end-to-end encryption, which means that only you, the community members and administrators, are the only ones who can see the content of the conversation. As this feature is still in development, it will likely be released in a future beta update of WhatsApp for Android or iOS operating systems.
