‘Wicked’ Novel Gets Collector’s Edition as Film Adaptation Looms

If you’re eagerly awaiting the release of Wicked on November 22, you might want to dive into the book that laid the foundation for this story.

The upcoming film starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo is the first of a two-part adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, also titled Wicked. This well-known stage production, which debuted in 2003 with Kristin Chenoweth as Galinda and Idina Menzel as Elphaba, is based on Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.

Maguire’s 1995 novel draws inspiration from L. Frank Baum’s 1900 classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and the 1939 film adaptation The Wizard of Oz starring Judy Garland.

In anticipation of the Wicked movie, Maguire’s novel is receiving a collector’s edition re-release. This version is now available for pre-order and is on sale at Target for $28, down from its regular price of $40, ahead of its official release on September 24.
