Xbox | Phil Spencer explains why they will continue to buy studios in the future

Xbox It will not stop expanding its portfolio of internal studies in the future. Xbox Game Studios, currently comprised of 23 teams following the acquisition of ZeniMax Media (Bethesda with its eight studios), will grow progressively to cover a wide range of audiences, types of players and have a presence in more territories. Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has explained his position in a meeting with IGN.

“When I look at our portfolio, I think there is still an opportunity for us with, I would say, more familiar content,” he begins by saying. It is possible that he refers to the lack of court videogames for all audiences; an equivalent of friendly experiences like Astro Bot on PlayStation or characters like Kirby, Yoshi or Super Mario on Nintendo. “When I think of the geographic diversity of our studies first-party, I think that we still have work to do there”, He asserts.

Currently, the 23 in-house Xbox Game Studios have teams around the world; both in America and Europe, while in Japan they only have one team, Tango Gameworks, located in Odaiba, Tokyo. These are the makers of The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo.

Despite rumors about future acquisitions, such as Housemarque by PlayStation Studios at the end of June – it has denied being immersed in an arms race – we do not know what Microsoft’s next acquisition of Xbox Game Studios may be.

By the end of the year, Xbox will publish works such as Halo Infinite – date to be determined – and Forza Horizon 5 on November 9, two big AAA with which to respond to the publications of the competition.
