1-Year-Old Dies After Abduction of 3 Children Ends in Car Crash: Police

An alleged abduction involving three children in Virginia Beach ended tragically with a car crash that left the youngest child dead, according to the police.

The incident began with a stabbing late Wednesday night, which authorities are treating as a “domestic-related” case. Virginia State Police reported that two victims—one adult and one juvenile—sustained multiple stab wounds and were transported to a local hospital. Fortunately, both are currently in stable condition.

The suspect in the stabbing, identified as 36-year-old Dana Plummer, allegedly attacked the two victims before fleeing with his children. The children involved were identified as 7-year-old Zayin Plummer, 5-year-old Zayir Plummer, and 1-year-old Za’riyah Plummer.

On Thursday morning, an AMBER Alert was issued for the missing children. This alert has since been canceled.

Thanks to a tip from a member of the community, law enforcement was able to identify the suspect’s vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. However, the vehicle did not yield and continued to flee north on the highway into Maryland, according to police.

While fleeing from the authorities, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed. Upon arrival at the crash site, police located the three children. The 1-year-old was immediately taken to a hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries shortly after.

Police apprehended Dana Plummer at the scene of the accident. He faces serious charges that include two counts of aggravated malicious wounding, three counts of parental abduction, four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and domestic assault.

Virginia State Police Chief Paul Neudigate extended his condolences following the incident. He expressed deep sympathy for the family mourning the loss and described the events as nothing short of an unimaginable tragedy.
