10 Up-and-Coming Spanish Producers to Watch

Spanish cinema boasts an incredible depth of filmmaking and producing talent that is increasingly based outside the traditional centers of Madrid and Barcelona. Below, we highlight ten of the most promising Spanish producers from across the Iberian peninsula worth keeping a keen eye on.

Eva Bodas, Entre las piedras (Madrid) Eva Bodas, a graduate of Madrid’s ECAM, founded her production company, Entre las piedras, in 2022. Notable projects at Entre las piedras include Antonio Llamas’s short film “La insurrección que viene” and Jorge Cantos’ “Los olvidados.” The label has participated in markets at the Berlinale, Cannes, and Busan. The company’s first feature, “A Suburban Mythology,” will hit Spanish theaters later this year. Bodas’s aim is to make bold films and support new talent, particularly interested in creating political cinema with a magical touch.

Charli Bujosa Cortés, Mansalva Films (Madrid) Mallorca-born Charli Bujosa is Spain’s only trans-non-binary producer. After studying law in Berlin, Bujosa shifted to cinema in Madrid, receiving diplomas in editing and documentary film. Bujosa co-founded Mansalva Films with David Castro in 2021. Their first feature, “A Landscaped Area Too Quiet For Me,” won prizes at DocsLisboa and DocumentaMadrid. Mansalva’s animated short, “Toda Está Perdido,” was also nominated for a Spanish Academy Goya Award. Bujosa believes in films that care more about being themselves than fitting a genre.

Jesús Choya Zataraín, Sincio de Pelis (Cantabria, Madrid) Jesús Choya Zataraín, a 2020 graduate of Madrid’s ECAM, has been working at Buenapinta Media since 2021. He founded Cantabria’s Sincio de Pelis, with credits on Spanish films like Alauda Ruiz de Azua’s “Lullaby” and Isabel Coixet’s “Un Amor.” At the 2022 Malaga Film Festival, Choya was recognized as a Málaga Talent. At just 25, Choya is keen to tell relatable stories, especially those that shed light on blind spots in daily life, and provide young voices an opportunity to tell their stories.
