123 TV and Streaming Shows to Watch This Month

It’s the end of the summer doldrums as TV roars back big time in September! Here’s a look at the highlights!

Last September was a rough period for TV as the strikes delayed most of the regular fall schedule. Thankfully, this year is different, with networks and streamers rolling out exciting new material. There are returning favorites like Grey’s Anatomy, the One Chicago shows, and Survivor, as well as many more. Here are the highlights of what to watch this September to welcome back regular TV!

An all-star cast of Kevin Hart, Taraji P. Henson, Terrence Howard, Samuel L. Jackson, and more feature in this intriguing true-life story. When Muhammad Ali makes his famed comeback fight in 1970, a gang of crooks rip off the richest people in Atlanta. Blamed for the heist, a low-level crook forges an unlikely alliance with a cop to find the real guilty parties. Expect a unique period drama with a compelling crime caper.

Sylvester Stallone returns in season 2 of the crime drama Tulsa King. As the season begins, Dwight is under arrest and may need to throw his DEA lover under the bus to get out of it. Even if he avoids jail time, Dwight faces challenges from his old bosses and a Kansas City mobster who doesn’t appreciate rivals. This sets the stage for what could be a full-scale war making season 2 even better than the first.

ABC’s new series High Potential brings Kaitlin Olson into the spotlight. Playing a cleaning lady at a police station who stuns veteran cops by easily solving a baffling murder case, it turns out the single mom has a genius IQ and unconventional problem-solving methods. Recruited as a consultant, this should add to TV’s slate of mystery-comedy successes.

The latest MCU entry has Kathryn Hahn reprising her role as WandaVision’s wicked witch, Agatha Harkness. Having been left powerless, Agatha regains her memories and quickly seeks new dark powers, forming her coven of misfit witches. Although Agatha has her own plans, expect this show to cast a nice spell on TV viewers.

The Batman left Gotham City in chaos after a huge flood. Seeing the opportunity, Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot, played by Colin Farrell, steps up to try and become Gotham’s new crime boss. Competing with the Falcones, led by Clancy Brown and Cristin Milioti, seeing Farrell portray the Penguin taking over Gotham will be thrilling, proving you don’t need Batman for a compelling show.

Ryan Murphy returns with the second season of the Netflix anthology series focusing on the infamous Menendez brothers’ case. With Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch portraying the convicted brothers, and Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny playing the parents, this series explores their story with additional drama. Nathan Lane and Ari Graynor round out the cast.

Matlock makes a return, but this time with Oscar winner Kathy Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, a former hotshot attorney who joins a high-powered firm. Using her age to make people underestimate her while harboring a secret agenda, this should be another showcase of Bates’ incredible talent.

Twenty years after Baywatch ended, Fox introduces Rescue: HI-Surf, showcasing lifeguards in Hawaii. With dangerous ocean rescues and interpersonal drama, it promises to be another Fox hit paired with 911: Lone Star.

NBC’s new series Brilliant Minds is inspired by the life of Dr. Oliver Sacks, with Zachary Quinto playing the pioneering neurologist tackling strange mental conditions. With guest stars like Mandy Patinkin, this tale of a maverick doctor could be another success for NBC.

Fox’s new mystery drama Murder in a Small Town appears more laid-back than its title suggests. Rossif Sutherland stars as a cop who moves to a quiet Pacific Northwest town that turns out to hold many secrets involving murder. Kristen Kreuk co-stars as the librarian and love interest, making this a series worth exploring.

Former top-notch surgeon Joshua Jackson stars in The Perfect Couple, set on a cruise ship where he serves as chief medical officer. With Don Johnson as the captain and various guest stars, this series offers a fun spin on the medical drama genre.
