15 Details You Likely Missed in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

Ryan Reynolds returns as Deadpool, and this time, Hugh Jackman joins him as Logan/Wolverine in the new movie “Deadpool & Wolverine,” directed by Shawn Levy.

The film is filled with callbacks, Easter eggs, and nods to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) that fans might enjoy. Here are some of the details you may have missed.

At Wade’s surprise birthday party, there’s a moment where he tells Buck, “No speaking lines, Buck.” This refers back to “Deadpool 2,” where Buck launched into a long-winded explanation about the Kübler-Ross grief cycle, prompting Wade to comment, “Jesus Christ, Buck. No more speaking lines for you.”

Rob McElhenney also makes a cameo as a TVA soldier. McElhenney and Reynolds co-own the English football club Wrexham AFC, and his cameo was hinted at in their docuseries “Welcome to Wrexham,” which released in May.

When Wade wakes up in The Void, there’s an “Avengers: Secret Wars” comic book on the ground. This likely alludes to Marvel Studios’ upcoming film “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2022.

Bodybuilder Aaron W. Reed, who was Reynolds’ body double in “Free Guy,” stars as Juggernaut. Juggernaut is one of the characters Deadpool and Wolverine come across in The Void.

During one particularly memorable scene, Deadpool and Wolverine crash into a store called Liefeld’s Just Feet, a nod to Rob Liefeld, one of Deadpool’s co-creators.

In the credits, there’s a listed actor named Gordon Reynolds who plays Nicepool, a Deadpool variant with long hair. This is actually an alias used by Ryan Reynolds, further referenced by his past pseudonym Champ Nightingale used in “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.”

Three of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s four children also make appearances in the film. James, Inez, and Olin have roles as a screaming mutant, Kidpool, and Babypool respectively. Blake Lively herself portrays a female variant of Deadpool named Ladypool.

Wrexham AFC player Paul Mullin appears as a variant named Welshpool, one of the 100 Deadpool variants during a climactic battle. This battle scene also includes a subtle tribute to the late Stan Lee. Lee, known for his cameo appearances in Marvel films, is honored with his photo on a bus ad seen during the fight.

The film wraps with a nod to “The Avengers.” After saving Deadpool’s universe, Deadpool suggests to Wolverine that they get shawarma. Wolverine replies, “I could eat,” and Deadpool mentions, “Y’know, the Avengers discovered shawarma,” referencing the superheroes’ post-battle meal in “The Avengers.”

There’s also a small Easter egg in Wade’s apartment, where a pizza box features the label “Feige’s Famous,” a nod to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

In the end credits, there’s a dedication “For Henry Delaney,” the son of Rob Delaney who plays Peter. Henry died in January 2018 at age two after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. Rob Delaney wrote a memoir about his son titled “A Heart That Works.”

The film also dedicates to the late production designer Ray Chan, who passed away in April at age 56. A message in the credits reads, “This film is dedicated to the memory of Raymond Chan. Ray was our anchor being. His contribution to the film and so many others was a gift which was never taken for granted and will never be forgotten. We’ll miss you, Ray.”

Additionally, the credits acknowledge Len Wein for his “significant contribution to the X-Men.” Wein, who passed away in 2017, is credited with co-creating Wolverine as well as other notable characters such as Swamp Thing, Nightcrawler, Storm, and Colossus.

These tributes strongly underscore the impact these individuals had on the Marvel Universe, enhancing the emotional resonance for fans who watch “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
