Recent news suggests that Apple TV+ is planning to tighten the reins on its show and movie budgets. This could mean fewer projects moving forward. However, one thing that is likely to remain unchanged is Apple’s commitment to quality content on its streaming service. From award-winning shows like Slow Horses to buzz-worthy dramas like Sunny and the unique series Pachinko, the platform consistently delivers top-notch entertainment.

August is set to bring two new shows to Apple TV+ that deserve a spot on your watchlist. One is a drug cartel docuseries, and the other is a comedy by Bill Lawrence, the creator of Ted Lasso .

On August 2, a new docuseries debuts. It follows a rookie FBI agent who targets the leadership of the notorious Mexican drug cartel, Los Zetas. Los Zetas, known for being one of the most fearsome cartels, have a notorious history that includes activities ranging from kidnapping and extortion to drug trafficking.

The series, Cowboy Cartel, tells the story of Scott Larson, a rookie FBI agent from Tennessee. Larson’s investigation into the brothers Omar Treviño Morales and Miguel Treviño Morales, who led the cartel, started with tracking their racehorse transactions in the U.S., an unusual starting point that revealed money laundering efforts.

The docuseries boasts significant names in its production team, such as executive producer Eric Newman, known for projects like Griselda and Narcos on Netflix. The series features interviews with key individuals, including Scott Larson, IRS agent Steve Pennington, several Irving police officers, Assistant United States Attorney Doug Gardner, journalist Ginger Thompson, and Joe Tone, author of Bones: Brothers, Horses, Cartels, and the Borderland Dream.

Then, coming on August 14 is the latest series from Bill Lawrence. Known for hits like Ted Lasso and Shrinking , Lawrence’s new Apple TV+ offering is Bad Monkey. This comedy, adapted from Carl Hiaasen’s 2013 novel, features Vince Vaughn as a former Miami police detective turned Keys health inspector. Vaughn’s character gets drawn into an investigation starting with a human arm found by tourists, hoping to redeem himself and return to his old job.

Bad Monkey has a star-studded cast, including Rob Delaney, Michelle Monaghan, Jodie Turner-Smith, Ashley Nicole Black, and Zach Braff. Given Lawrence’s track record of successful shows for Apple TV+, this one is definitely worth adding to your watchlist.
