30-Year-Old Suspect Charged with Murder After Four Shot on Chicago Train

A 30-year-old man has been charged with murder following a shocking mass shooting on a train in Chicago that left four individuals dead on Labor Day.

Rhanni Davis, a resident of Chicago, faces four counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Margaret Miller, 64, Simeon Bihesi, 28, Adrian Collins, 60, and a fourth unidentified man.

The Forest Park Police Department received reports early Monday morning at around 5:30 a.m. that three individuals had been shot while sleeping on a CTA Blueline train. When officers arrived at the Forest Park CTA Blueline Station, they discovered four victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

According to Forest Park Deputy Chief of Police Christopher Chin, the first three victims were found in one carriage and were pronounced dead at the scene. The fourth victim, Collins, was located with serious abdominal wounds in a separate carriage. He was quickly taken to a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

Deputy Chief Chin remarked that the nature of the attack seemed random, as there was no indication of an altercation leading up to the shootings. “As the train approached the first stop, CCTV footage captured Davis standing in the same carriage as the three victims, who appeared to be asleep,” he explained. Notably, the victims were not seated together.

Chin further detailed that Davis went on to kill each victim one by one before moving into the adjacent carriage, where he shot Collins, who also appeared to be asleep at the time. There was a woman wrapped in a blanket sleeping in the same carriage as Collins during the horrific event; she was unharmed, which police believe was due to the gunman running out of ammunition.

A total of six gunshots were fired, with two of the victims sustaining two shots each. Within 90 minutes of the shooting, Davis was apprehended after officers identified him from surveillance footage on another CTA Pink Line Train in a different part of the city.

At a press conference, Lieutenant Daniel Pater, head of the Forest Park Police Department, confirmed that investigators had located the weapon used in the attack – a 9mm Glock 43 – and that it was registered to Davis.

Authorities labeled the Labor Day incident as isolated and emphasized that the Forest Park community, which is home to around 14,000 residents, is not facing an immediate threat.

Mayor Rory Hoskins commented that it was unlikely the victims were aware of their assailant, stating that “they were shot execution-style as they slept.”

At this time, the motive behind the attack remains unclear. When asked whether the victims were homeless, Chicago Transit Authority President Dorval Carter Jr. refrained from speculation, stating, “I can’t speak to whether these individuals are homeless. That will be addressed later by the state’s attorney and the police.” He did highlight that his agency has taken significant steps to support homeless individuals using the CTA in recent times.

Davis is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday afternoon as the investigation continues.
