49ers Rookie Ricky Pearsall Discharged from Hospital After Shooting

On September 1, the San Francisco 49ers confirmed that rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was discharged from the hospital on Sunday afternoon. This came just a day after he was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery in Union Square, San Francisco.

Initially, Pearsall was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he was reported to be in serious but stable condition. The team provided an update, stating that the 23-year-old player “continues to recover from a bullet wound to his chest.”

In a post on Facebook, Pearsall’s mother, Erin Pearsall, shared an update on her son’s condition. She expressed her gratitude that the bullet passed through without causing damage to any vital organs, stating, “He is in good spirits now… My son was spared by the grace of God.”

Pearsall was able to walk to the ambulance and conversed with police about the incident. Authorities reported that the 17-year-old suspect, a resident of Tracy, California, was also admitted to San Francisco General Hospital due to a gunshot wound.

According to San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, the suspect will face charges in juvenile court. Police Chief William Scott indicated during a news conference that there was no evidence to suggest that Pearsall was specifically targeted because of his status as a football player, and it appeared the suspect acted alone.

John Lynch, the general manager of the 49ers, visited Pearsall in the hospital, demonstrating the team’s support during this challenging time. Pearsall was selected as the 31st overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft held in April, making him one of the team’s notable rookies.

Standing 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing 189 pounds, Pearsall had an impressive college career. Last season at the University of Florida, he recorded 65 receptions for 965 yards and four touchdowns. He transferred to Florida from Arizona State, where he played from 2019 to 2021.

Union Square, the location where the shooting occurred, is a vibrant area known for its shopping, dining, and theaters. It attracts both tourists and locals looking to experience the lively atmosphere and enjoy the city’s energy.

Pearsall had previously missed three weeks of practice due to a subluxation of his left shoulder but was back on the field on Monday. The 49ers are preparing for their first game of the season against the New York Jets on September 9.

As Pearsall continues his recovery, the 49ers community stands united and hopeful for his swift return to the game.
