A ‘One Tree Hill’ Sequel Series with Original Cast is Coming to Netflix!

There’s only one Tree Hill—and we might be going back to it!

A One Tree Hill sequel series is in development with original stars set to return, according to Deadline. The reboot will reportedly be executive-produced by three OTH alums: Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton, and Danneel Ackles.

The original teen drama, which ran for nine seasons from 2003 to 2012 on the WB and CW, was created by Mark Schwahn, who has been accused of sexual harassment and manipulation. Now, it seems Bush and Burton are going to “reclaim” their “turf” and “own” their “history” with a follow-up series.

In posts on their respective Instagram accounts, Bush and Burton both penned: “What if you really can go back home? If there’s an opportunity to team with brilliant creatives and build a space where all our friends can show off their talents? Own our history? Reclaim our turf? Honor our fans? Sign us up.”

“There’s only one Tree Hill, after all. And you—the #OTHfam—have shown us that it’s not just an idea,” they added. “It really is the place where ‘everything’s better and everything’s safe.'”

The series is reportedly in the works at Netflix.

Deadline reported that both Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton are set to reprise their roles as Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer, respectively. Danneel Ackles, who played Rachel Scott on the original show, is also said to be in talks to return for the series. Per Deadline, “there have been informal conversations with other members of the ensemble cast,” and formal approaches to other One Tree Hill alums are “expected if/when the sequel series is greenlighted.”

Jana Kramer has expressed her interest in returning. She commented on Burton’s post, “Wahoooo. Ready when y’all want me 😉.” Over on Bush’s post, Daphne Zuniga, who played her onscreen mom, wrote: “It’s time, darlings! 💎🍸.”

Unfortunately for Leyton fans, Chad Michael Murray, who stole hearts as Lucas Scott, has no plans to return for the sequel series. The actor left the original series after Season 6.

No word yet on whether Naley, played by James Lafferty (Nathan Scott) and Bethany Joy Lenz (Haley James Scott), will be back for the new series.

The original cast of One Tree Hill included Chad Michael Murray (Lucas Scott), James Lafferty (Nathan Scott), Bethany Joy Lenz (Haley James Scott), Hilarie Burton (Peyton Sawyer), Sophia Bush (Peyton Sawyer), Paul Johansson (Dan Scott), Moira Kelly (Karen Roe), and Antwon Tanner (Antwon “Skills” Taylor).

According to Deadline, the One Tree Hill sequel will be set 20 years later and will follow “best friends Brooke and Peyton who are now parents to teens and facing challenges not unfamiliar to what they tackled in the original series like love, insecurities, and grief.”
