Aug. 14 (UPI) — FX will debut its inaugural installment of American Sports Story featuring an exploration of football star Aaron Hernandez.

The segment draws inspiration from the podcast Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc, which traces the athlete’s dramatic downfall “from the bright lights of the Super Bowl to a convicted murderer in a few years.”

Hernandez died by suicide in 2017.

“You don’t know the kind of thoughts I have,” says Hernandez, portrayed by Josh Rivera, in the trailer. “It’s like a demon. What if God made me this way?”

The teaser reveals Hernandez getting into fights and becoming progressively angrier as the two-minute clip unfolds.

Alongside Rivera, the cast includes Jaylen Barron, Lindsay Mendez, Ean Castellanos, and Tammy Blanchard.

The new show will premiere on FX and Hulu on Sept. 17.
