Adam Lambert Discusses Tripping on Acid on ‘American Idol’

Adam Lambert, known for his appearance on Season 8 of American Idol on FOX, recently opened up about his experiences on the show. Despite the intense competition, Lambert’s success post-American Idol is undeniable. He recently shared an anecdote about the time leading up to the talent show where he battled his fear by taking a rather unconventional approach.

Though he didn’t claim the top prize on American Idol, Lambert has built a strong career in music. Discussing potential replacements for Katy Perry at the judges’ table, he suggested LeAnn Rimes, who also coached on the show this year. Some fans thought Lambert himself should take over Perry’s role, citing his commendable post-show success, including his performances and Billboard rankings. His work with the rock band Queen further solidified his reputation in the industry.

During Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast, Lambert recalled the days before he made it big. At a music festival, Lambert revealed that he “tripped on some acid,” a decision stemming from his intense fear of failure.

He described the experience vividly:

I tripped on acid and had this amazing experience where I saw my fear in front of me … as a physical manifestation. I was in the desert and heard the voice of some higher power. It was like ‘kick it away,’ and I kicked it away, and I saw it shoot across the floor.

This hallucination motivated Lambert to face his fears head-on. He decided to attempt everything, believing he could now control his fear. The subsequent fame and success he achieved came as a testament to this newfound perspective. While using acid to confront fears isn’t for everyone, the idea of facing one’s fears is a universal challenge.
