Adam Sandler is officially reprising his role as Happy Gilmore in a long-awaited Netflix sequel to the 1996 movie, which remains one of his most beloved comedies. While detailed information about the film is scarce at the moment, it has been confirmed that Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce will be part of the cast.

Kelce’s involvement in the movie follows his expressed enthusiasm to be part of the sequel. Although it appears that Kelce will make a cameo appearance as himself, Sandler revealed that there were initial discussions about Kelce playing a significantly different role. In the season premiere of the New Heights podcast, Sandler mentioned that they considered casting Kelce as Happy Gilmore’s son, envisioning it as a humorous twist.

“We were talking about you playing my son literally like six months ago,” Sandler told Travis. “We were like, imagine if Travis was my first baby, how funny that would be. Just a badass.”

It would indeed be an amusing scenario for the 6’5 Kelce to show up as Happy’s son. There might still be a possibility for this to happen, especially since Kelce has been honing his Happy Gilmore swing. Sandler was impressed by how far Kelce can hit the golf ball, consistently reaching 320 yards, much to Sandler’s amazement and mild frustration.

The inclusion of Travis Kelce indicates that the sequel will feature some memorable and entertaining moments. Fans of the original film are likely to be excited to see how Kelce’s cameo and potential humorous bits will add to the beloved comedy. As the details of Happy Gilmore 2 emerge, anticipation builds for what is sure to be an eagerly awaited release on Netflix.
