AFL Star Bailey Smith and Girlfriend Gemma Dawkins Split After Two Years

AFL star Bailey Smith is believed to have ended his relationship with his girlfriend of two years, Gemma Dawkins. The Western Bulldogs player, 23, quietly separated from Gemma earlier this year, as reported by the Herald Sun. They first confirmed their romance in May 2022 and made their public debut as a couple on Derby Day in Melbourne in 2023.

Despite being a private couple, it seems they have now gone their separate ways. They appear to have unfollowed each other on Instagram, and Bailey last shared a photo with Gemma in February during a romantic trip to New York. Recently, Bailey’s friends have rallied around him, joining him for a fun-filled night out at The Commons Collective, a Melbourne hotspot.

The midfielder, who made his AFL debut in 2019, first confirmed he was in a relationship during an interview in May 2022. He shared a light-hearted story about his girlfriend’s father seeing him in shirtless adverts for the fashion brand Cotton On, mentioning how his girlfriend’s dad drives past the adverts daily.

Later in 2022, Bailey was seen putting on a loved-up display with Gemma as they walked hand in hand. Their relationship became public knowledge when they finally made their official debut at the 2023 Derby Day event in Melbourne.

Bailey’s 2024 AFL season took an unexpected turn due to a severe knee injury during a training session with the Western Bulldogs in December. Scans later confirmed he had injured his anterior cruciate ligament, throwing his football career into uncertainty. Despite the setback, Bailey posted a photo of himself training on Instagram, captioned “Ahh well, she’ll be right,” with a blue heart emoji.

Bulldogs football director Chris Grant commented, “We’re all extremely disappointed for Bailey and empathise with him greatly. The entire club will rally around him during this difficult time as he begins his rehab journey.” Fans also sent their best wishes and encouraged him to stay with the club amid ongoing speculation about his future.

There have been rumors that Bailey might move to another club, but the Bulldogs are reportedly offering him a two-year contract extension, potentially keeping him with the team until 2027.
